Chaika

Company: Belova-Iacobelli
A.P.Chekhov „The Seagull“

Backstage at a theatre, an aging actress named Chaika struggles to remember why she is there. Ayoung woman arrives to remind her: tonight she is to play the role of Arkadina in Chekhov’s The Seagull. It wil be her last apperance on the stage.
Her memory has faded and she does not know who exactly she is or what role she has to redeem herself, but she is determined to play at least this last performance. In her struggle and fall, reality and fiction intertwine. She tries to fit in with the plot, but conflict with her son Konstantin and repeated separations from her lover Trigorinkeep her in the past. There she meets the young actress she once was, playing another ( her favourite!) role – that as Nina Zarechnaya.
Nina is the young actresswho finds a way to go on creating new forms and spaces for theatre and life. Like the characters in the play „The Seagull“, the actress Chaika moves between the past and the future, disappointment and hope, but she perseveres trough it all.
Told in a dreamlike manner, this performance is about an actress and a puppet. This is the first performance of Belgian-Chilean company Belova-Iacobelli.
